  In 1852 there was very little gold found here and water was scarce as well, (was even named Drytown for a while). A small settlement sprang up just east of the current site of Plymouth CA on the stage route from Fiddletown to Sacramento. Eventually some high producing quartz deposits spawned growth in the area and by 1871 the name Plymouth was adopted for the new California boom town.

  The name Drytown lives on in the CA Gold Country even today, as a small town just south of Plymouth. Other names preceded Plymouth, CA as well. It was called Pokerville originally. Then later Puckerville. Plymouth was always peaceful compared to many of it's California Gold Country neighbors as its growth was a bit more reserved, so were the extent of the residents hostility and vices.

  Many Plymouth California locals refute the above mentioned name changes. No doubt the color of Plymouth's past doesn't sit well with many. The critics of 2GETGold.com may be justified in their declarations but we will continue to report the names used. Although these may not have been "official" names for Plymouth it was in fact known by each of them at one point or another and is, as a result... history.
