Yosemite National Park is the "Top Destination" for travelers to California with its dramatically steep cliffs serving as a backdrop to the valley below. Luxury travel lodging are available at Tenaya Lodge, (Yosemite Hotels) in the heart of Yosemite Valley but be forewarned, it is difficulty to get an available room if not booked a year in advance. Lodging accommodations throughout the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas are very reasonable for the quality of rooms that you will find. Flying in? No problem, just reserve a rental car to pick up at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport. When your plane lands, some of the best lodging in town is right across the street. You can then drive the hour to Yosemite the next morning by traveling north on HWY41 to the park's south entrance.

You may prefer Oakhurst Hotels for lodging which is only half an hour travel from the southern entrance to Yosemite Park stated above. From northern California, you may find lodging at Mariposa Hotels more convenient. Oakhurst is north on HWY41 about half way between Fresno and Yosemite Park while Mariposa is Northwest of Oakhurst near HWY120.

Catalina Island off the coast of California is a favorite three day getaway when travel is from San Francisco or Sacramento California, although it does only leave one full day to relax and enjoy the island. A 4-5 day itinerary would be best to fully enjoy the vacation and allow travel. Two day outings for Central California residents seems to work well although three is recommended.

 Southern California residents can easily take the ferry across from Long Beach and enjoy a one day getaway without any additional travel.
