Old
Town Sacramento and
California State Railroad Museum
About five blocks of downtown Sacramento has
been partitioned off to through traffic for the purpose of preserving
the historic Gold Rush era buildings. Pedestrian traffic only allows for
an unobstructed and close up view of the old town. Most of the shops are
currently open to visitors and house gifts or food vendors. A visit would
not be complete without riverboat dining aboard the historic Delta King.
Interstate 5 to "J" Street exit and follow
the signs.

east bound mail to arrive 1,966 miles later in St. Joseph, Missouri. There
were 121 known riders during the course of the Pony Express mail service
and 119 relay stations along the way. In October
of 1861 the Transcontinental Telegraph began, and the Pony Express mail
carrier service closed two days later.

Govenors
Mansion
Originally built by a wealthy hardware
merchant in 1877, it is no longer serving our state Governor families.
The Ronald Reagan family was the last to occupy it in 1967. The Governors
Mansion is open to the public and furnishings are original to the house.
Many personal items from past Governors are on display. It has over 30
rooms, 14 foot ceilings, Persian carpets, Italian marble fireplaces, and
many other ornate decor. (Daily tours: 10-4)
